Hey, y'all! EDUC 633 Intro

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

My name is Ashley Fort, and I live in a rural town in the Midlands of South Carolina. I am a true Southerner! I love being a South Carolina native, living in the country, and all that entails. My favorite beverage is sweet tea, my mustard-based barbeque is to die for, and I'm always blessing someone's heart.

really love spending time with my family. I come from a family of teachers: my mother, an aunt, and a great-aunt were all teachers. My husband Andrew is self-employed . We've been married for 17 years and have 3 precious children: Liam (13), Caroline (11), and Aidan (9). I love being their first teacher and a golf mom, dance mom, and baseball mom to those wonderfully energetic little humans. I enjoy couponing, refinishing furniture, crafting, and decorating my home. I also thoroughly enjoy reading, especially studying God's word.

Currently, I am pursuing a Masters in Educational Technology and Online Learning from Liberty University. I enjoy implementing technology in my classroom, from interactive lessons on the SmartBoard to using iPads to introduce students to the basics of using the internet and technology for research and presentations. It’s also important to teach these students the niceties and etiquette of using technology, as well as ways to keep them safe. I recently volunteered to be a part of a newly-formed technology advisory committee that will help get teachers, students, and parents more involved with beneficial technology and teach them digital citizenship, as well.

2 Truths and a Lie
I got married when I was 18. I can trace my father’s family, the Boatwrights, back to the Revolutionary War. Two weeks ago I danced in a local production of The Wizard of Oz.

  1. Hey Ashley,
I really enjoyed watching your video blog and learning more about you. It sounds like you have many hats that you wear. That is really exciting that you only have four classes left until you are done with this program. How exciting! I think that is really neat that you get to teach 2nd graders and introduce them to technology at such a young age. I did a practicum in a 1st grade classroom and I was amazed and how the students did so well with the technology. The students I worked with in the 1st grade classroom, loved when they had the opportunity to use the smartboard. I love using the iPad’s in my classroom, do you have any favorite apps that you could recommend? I love that you are involved with a technology committee. What is the purpose of your technology committee? We have one at our school and I was apart of it my first year of teaching. I believe that your lie is…that you got married at 18? I look forward to hearing your answer.
